The New Brunswick Percussion Ensemble creates a unique blend of Afro-Latin rhythms, jazz patterns, and free form rhythmic expression. Originally established to teach school children about rhythm through performance and workshops, the group has presented its program to students and educators in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia and has performed at regional jazz and blues festivals, charity events, and Drumfest 2005. The players of this group are all well-known New Brunswick musicians. Peter Doyle has performed and recorded with ECMA nominees Shanklin Road and Brent Mason Band. Peter is a gifted percussionist playing both hand drums and drum kit. Franco Cucinelli has recorded and performed with jazz groups Eclipse, Doug Scraid, and Craig's Lunch. Franco has been head of the District 8 Band Program in Saint John and bass player and percussionist with the N.B Symphony Orchestra since 1999. Franco plays with a number of jazz groups (Richard Kidd, Jennifer Powers, The Jazztet, and the Black Kats swing band). The youngest member of the group, John Morrison's music career has taken off since appearing at the CB Drumfest (after only two years of play). John is one of the most sought after musicians in New Brunswick , recording with Jay Semko of the Northern Pikes and the Steve Whelan Band. Joe McIntyre is the founder of the group. McIntyre played with a number of regional groups in the 60's and 70's before settling down to a teaching career in Saint John . Joe has a reputation as both an instructor and ambassador of drumming. Since 2003, he has held drum camps each July and August. Joe and his fellow drummers continue to promote rhythm, drums, percussion, and music. N.B. Percussion explores the multi-cultural rhythms of North and Central America in a unique blend of percussive concepts and performance skills. |
